Florida Man Sentenced for Abusing Girlfriend’s Cats

In Defense of Animals is pleased with the sentencing of Travis Keith Fehr, who was charged with two felony counts of animal cruelty for brutally beating his girlfriend’s two cats.

On May 26, Fehr was sentenced by Judge Nicholas R. Thompson to 180 days in prison for each count to be served concurrently and 48 months of probation for each count to be served concurrently, in addition to fines and court costs. He is also not allowed to have any animals while on probation and will have to register with the animal abuse registry.

“We are relieved that the court has affirmed the conviction and ensured that justice is served for Scrumph and Joy,” said Doll Stanley, In Defense of Animals’ Justice for Animals Senior Campaigner. “Fehr’s heinous actions demanded accountability, and today the legal system stood firm for the victims of animal cruelty. While no sentence can rewind the trauma from the beating, this outcome sends a vital message that animal abuse will not be tolerated in Florida.”
