Suspected drunk driver backs into Fort Myers Police officer’s vehicle during traffic stop

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Fort Myers police arrested a man they say was drunk driving in downtown Fort Myers before backing into a patrol car during a traffic stop.

According to the Fort Myers Police Department, on Saturday night, officers responded to reports of a suspected drunk driver after a witness reported seeing a pickup truck swerving through traffic and nearly causing multiple crashes.

An officer found the truck in downtown Fort Myers and saw the driver exhibit driving behavior consistent with impairment, FMPD said. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the truck, but the driver continued onto the Caloosahatchee Bridge before eventually stopping…
