SW Florida rents freefalling again in 2026, but still unaffordable

Research this year shows Southwest Florida rents are freefalling again in 2026, continuing a five-year or so trend that In the Know has been covering − but housing still isn’t affordable for many residents.

For example, Fort Myers ranked among America’s 10 biggest drops in prices from April 2025 to last month among 644 cities in federal and local numbers studied by the Tradingpedia financial analysis firm, which released findings this week.

At the same time, separate new stats for 2026 show Southwest Florida’s rental affordability rate is still among the worst in the United States, partly due to local earnings…
