What neighbors describe as a quiet Englewood street turned into a full-on raid when a Charlotte County SWAT team rolled up to a Michael Street home on Tuesday, May 19, to help narcotics detectives serve a search warrant. By the time the dust settled, deputies said they had one man in cuffs, a house full of contraband cataloged and a stack of cash tagged for seizure. The suspect was identified by authorities as 30-year-old Matthew Taylor, who was taken into custody at the scene and booked into the Charlotte County Jail.
What Deputies Say They Found
According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, narcotics detectives cataloged about 1.57 pounds of suspected cocaine and about 8.22 pounds of marijuana inside the Michael Street residence. Deputies say they also recovered a .22-caliber rifle, a money counter, digital scales, plastic baggies and 50 Adderall pills. The sheriff’s post reports that $21,840 in cash was seized and will be processed for forfeiture, and that detectives had previously seen what they described as multiple daily drug sales at the address. Taylor was arrested on a list of trafficking, paraphernalia and probation-violation charges, according to the sheriff’s office.
