Indy man sentenced to 60 years for 2020 murder of girlfriend

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indy man will serve the next six decades of his life behind bars for killing his girlfriend.

Online court records indicate that Rakeem Thompson has been sentenced to 60 years in the Indiana Department of Correction. As part of his sentencing, Thompson received a jail credit for 804 days, which is a little more than two years.

The sentencing follows the conclusion of a three-day jury trial in April that resulted in Thompson being convicted in 2020 for his role in the death of his girlfriend, Brittany Burns, six years ago.

Indianapolis metro police responded to a home on English Avenue on Oct. 9, 2020, where they discovered Burns’ unresponsive body. Thompson had called 911 that night saying that he believed his girlfriend had “passed away.”…
