CARMEL, Ind. — Charges have been filed against an 18-year-old Indianapolis resident who was involved in a police shooting in Carmel earlier this month.
According to court documents recently filed in Hamilton County, Jacob Berry was charged with:
- Two counts of attempting to commit aggravated battery – posing a substantial risk of death, each a Level 3 felony
- Two counts of intimidation, each a Level 5 felony
- Two counts of pointing a firearm at another, each a Level 6 felony
On the evening of Aug. 6, officers responded to a welfare check on Berry, who was reportedly having suicidal thoughts.
The court documents, written by a deputy with the Indiana State Police, said a family member of Berry’s called law enforcement, stating that Berry was driving a vehicle and had threatened to hurt himself or commit suicide by cop.
