A court granted preliminary approval to Duke University Health System’s $3.7 million class-action settlement following a lawsuit alleging the healthcare network shared patient information with tech company Meta.
Over 800,000 individuals could be eligible for payouts and must file for payment by Aug. 16. Patients who logged into the Duke MyChart portal or MyDuke Health mobile app at least once between Feb. 18, 2019 and June 17, 2022, are members of the settlement class and are eligible for payment. The settlement will become effective pending final court approval.
According to the court-approved settlement website, the settlement does not include any admission of wrongdoing by DUHS, and the court has not ruled that DUHS committed wrongdoing either. Duke Health officials wrote in an email to The Chronicle “the matter is subject to a court-approved settlement process, and Duke Health has no comment.”…
