Iowa City downtown district to double in size

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The Iowa City Downtown District will double in size on July 1, expanding north to include the University of Iowa Health Care downtown campus and south to add 12 blocks of homes and businesses.

The expansion comes as the district renews its Self-Supported Municipal Improvement District status. Under the SSMID designation, businesses pay a higher tax, but that money goes back into district initiatives.
