CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Board meeting minutes for Empowering Excellence Academy reveal that the charter school was considering filing a police report after finding $48,000 in missing receipts.
Empowering Excellence Academy just finished its second school year. It’s Cedar Rapids’ first public charter school and has an enrollment of about 200 students. The online school with mentors is intended to serve high school students at risk of dropping out.
Missing receipts and fraudulent charges
Board minutes from June show the board discussed $48,000 in missing receipts at its meeting. The minutes also show there were fraudulent Amazon charges tied to identity theft.
Last month, the board amended those minutes to note that $30,000 in receipts had come in and that they’re working to find the rest.
