Man connected to Melody Hoffman murder arrested again after leaving work release facility

LINN COUNTY, Iowa — Logan Kimpton is back in custody after escaping a work release facility Friday.

Court records show Kimpton signed out of the Larry Nelson Residential Center on Friday but did not return as required, prompting authorities to classify him as an escapee.

Kimpton previously entered an Alford plea to conspiracy to commit a forcible felony in connection with the 2024 killing of Melody Hoffman. Under the plea agreement, he received a three-year probation sentence. Court documents indicate he could face up to 10 years in prison if found in violation of that probation.
