Iowa City schools new CFO Pat Moore ready for a challenge

IOWA CITY — If Pat Moore was looking for a professional challenge, she’s getting it as new chief financial officer of the Iowa City school district.

The district in January began uncovering financial concerns that included a lack of internal controls, funds being deposited into incorrect accounts, payroll costs that have increased 9 percent over the last year — much higher than anticipated — and cash-flow issues that resulted in temporary funding needs and multiple interfund loans.

It’s a “puzzle” that Moore, 57, feels prepared to piece together to “get Iowa City schools back to what it used to be,” she said in an interview with The Gazette earlier this month just 16 days into the job…
