Marion marks Flag Day with America 250 salute, Civil War reenactment and flags parade

MARION, Iowa — Marion marked Flag Day on Sunday with its “America 250 Salute to the Flag” event at the Marion Heritage Center, featuring a mix of history, music and patriotic displays.

The day included a Civil War re-enactment, a patriotic concert by the Marion Community Band, and a parade of historic flags from the Revolutionary War.

“Not many people know about the flags and how they were done. Infantry had much, much larger flags,” Kathy Kroger, Captain C.K. Baker of the Third Iowa Cavalry Company D, said. “I don’t know how those guys carried them. But we have ours, and that helps a little bit with Flag Day, because we can always point that out.”…
