Atlantic Softball Team Wins Opening Game at the Fort Dodge Softball Tournament: Falls Short to Cedar Rapids Kennedy in a Close One in Round Two

(Fort Dodge) #10 Atlantic softball team extended their record to 20-2, blanking Clear Creek Amana in the Trojans’ opening game at the Fort Dodge Tournament on Friday afternoon. Cedar Rapids, Kennedy edged the Trojans 1-0 in round 2.

In the first round win over Clear Creek Amana, the Trojans scored eight runs on ten hits, while committing just one error. Atlantic played a solid game all the way around, turning two double-plays, behind the solid pitching of Brynn Lamp. The junior allowed no runs on three hits, while striking out two, and walked four batters.

Atlantic got off to a good start, striking first in the opening inning when London Kirchhoff hit a single that brought in one run. The game became a pitchers’ battle until the top of the sixth inning. The Trojans opened up the game with five runs on two hits. Two runs scored on a fielder’s choice, followed by Lila Wiederstein’s two RBI single. A Clipper error resulted in the fifth run of the frame putting Atlantic on top 6-0.
