2nd Animal Control employee sues Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS — Another former Cedar Rapids Animal Care & Control worker has sued the city for allegedly firing her for reporting concerns about the municipal shelter to state officials.

Attorneys for former assistant shelter manager Lauren Hopkins filed the lawsuit this spring in Linn County District Court seeking back pay, attorney’s fees and additional monetary damages. The city has yet to file its legal response.

The suit alleges Hopkins’ February termination was a retaliatory act for reporting mold and other structural issues at the city-run shelter to state officials, who as a result ruled the facility out of compliance with state standards…
