‘It’s just wrong’: Kids, families feel impact of park vandalism as Cedar Rapids Parks and Rec weighs security cameras

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Broken toilets, closed restrooms and thousands of dollars in repairs are becoming a familiar sight at Cedar Rapids parks.

City officials say vandalism continues to be seen at parks every year, with two park restrooms damaged within the past month. While the repairs come at a cost to taxpayers, children who spend their summers at the parks say they’re also paying the price.

Nine-year-old Owen Brenner visits Riverside Park at least twice a week to ride his scooter. He said he was disappointed after learning about vandalism to the bathroom there. Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation shared pictures to their Facebook page…
