CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The transition between hot and humid weather to something more comfortable could be a bit rocky.
After a brief break from the more oppressive heat and humidity on Sunday, we’ll see a big bounce-back on Monday. Once again, the combination of dew points in the 70s and highs in the low 90s pushes heat index readings close to 100 degrees. This will be the last of our very hot days for now, as a storm system brings changes next week. It also brings a threat of some storms, which is why Monday is now a First Alert Day.
Ingredients appear to be coming together to allow some of the storms on Monday to turn strong to severe. The Storm Prediction Center puts a broad area of the upper Midwest in a Slight Risk of severe storms (in yellow below). This includes all of the TV9 viewing area.
The exact details about this potential will become clearer in the next day or two, especially as it comes to timing and location of the highest storm threats. At this time, damaging wind appears to be the biggest threat, with at least one line or complex of storms possible…
