Iowa City seeks public input on Johnson Street Bridge replacement grant application

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The City of Iowa City is asking residents to complete a short survey as it seeks federal funding to replace the Johnson Street Bridge over Ralston Creek.

The project is part of a statewide application led by the Iowa Department of Transportation in partnership with more than 20 counties and cities. The application seeks funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Competitive Highway Bridge Program, which will award up to $350 million nationwide in 2026 for bridge infrastructure projects.

If selected, the funding would help replace 32 bridges in poor condition across Iowa, including the Johnson Street Bridge.
