MARION, Iowa — Hometown Eats was craving something sweet, so we made a stop at The Eat Shop. With locations in Solon, Iowa City, Coralville and Marion, owner Cheryl Maloney was always destined to reach her goals and succeed. She did it following in the footsteps of generations before her, using those famous recipes, dating back over nine decades.
Cheryl’s aunt, Great Aunt Mary Ann, who’s original Eat Shop founded in Cedar Rapids in the 1930s was built on a simple idea: put people first, serve something exceptional, and do it with care.
That’s exactly what Cheryl is doing now. Before her move to Eastern Iowa, she lived on the Southside of Chicago with her family. She worked a corporate job and baked for fun. She realized the importance of it, when it helped her get through some of the toughest times of her life, like her father’s cancer diagnosis. After he passed, the Maloney’s made the move to Iowa and she decided there’s no time like the present, to start her business…
