The Iowa Public Health Association (IPHA) recognized four outstanding honorees at the 2026 Public Health Conference of Iowa in Des Moines on April 8, 2026.
Emerging Leader Award: Giselle Coreas
Giselle Coreas, Public Health Planner at Johnson County Public Health, has demonstrated exceptional public health leadership over the past five years, beginning as a COVID-19 contact tracer and growing into a driving force for food security in her community. She leads a local Food Security Committee, serves on the Johnson County Food Policy Board and Iowa Hunger Coalition, and spearheaded a countywide Food Security Assessment that reached more than 1,000 food pantry clients. Her data-driven, collaborative approach has informed funding decisions, shaped SNAP advocacy, and helped Johnson County earn the 2025 Healthiest State Initiative Medium Workplace Award.
