Charleston Duck Race sends 14,000 rubber ducks racing on Daniel Island for $10,000 prize

DANIEL ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) — Thousands of rubber ducks splashed into the Wando River on Daniel Island Saturday afternoon.

The initiative is the 19th annual Charleston Duck Race, which looks to raise money for local charities and offers participants a chance at a $10,000 prize. About 14,000 ducks tumbled into the river and raced toward the shoreline as hundreds of people gathered to watch their adopted ducks compete.

“Every year we raise about $200,000 for local charities in the area, all 500 or so of us are volunteers,” said Evan Muray, identified as the event’s “Head Duck.”…
