WEST ASHLEY, S.C. (WCIV) — Wednesday, Charleston leaders will be taking a look at a design plan for more than 400 townhomes and apartments in West Ashley. The plan however has one major catch: it would require the removal of grand and protected trees in the area.
In a City Board of Appeals meeting that was held in May a decision on the project was deferred. In that time the developer for the townhomes has revised their plan, which would now call for the removal of 32 trees rather than the initial over 60 trees that were set for removal.
City leaders state that they plan to hear about the revised project from developers at the Wednesday meeting, while also aiming to assuage fears from the newly formed “Charleston County Tree Preservation Alliance.”…
