22 grand oak trees to be removed to make way for new development in West Ashley

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The City of Charleston’s Board of Zoning Appeals approved the removal of more than 22 grand oak trees across West Ashley, following complaints from the community.

The removal of the historic trees is set to take place on Grand Oaks Blvd. and will make space for a new apartment complex in the area.

The conditions of the removal say that developers must plant more than 490 inches of native canopy trees adjacent to Grand Oak Blvd. and provide a tree preservation plan that is specific to each of the 22 historic trees…
