Kronsberg brings decades of stewardship and community ties to the table
Growing up “in the garden of Charleston,” Jason Kronsberg spent summers enjoying family trips to Sullivan’s Island and exploring the black waters of what’s now known as the ACE Basin, instilling an early love for Lowcountry environments. A 1995 graduate of Colorado State University, he earned his bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture and spent the next 13 years working on projects ranging from resort planning to park design along the East Coast and across the Midwest.
Kronsberg joined the City of Charleston as a project manager for the parks department in 2010 and was promoted to parks director under the recommendation of Mayor John Tecklenburg six years later. In January, he was named the executive director of the Charleston Parks Conservancy (CPC). In his role leading the nonprofit, Kronsberg manages a network of green spaces, playgrounds, and other facilities and directs a staff of arborists, horticulturalists, landscape architects, and more. Here, he discusses the responsibilities of his new position and the vital presence of public parks.
