Bond court scam affecting an “overwhelming” number of people: BCSO

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – An “overwhelming” number of people have been targeted by a new bond court scam, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office warned on Wednesday.

BCSO is warning the public about a bond court scam targeting people who’ve had a loved one arrested before they ever appear in bond court.

The scam impersonates law enforcement and tells residents that their loved one can be released immediately if money is sent via gift cards, Zelle, Cash App, Venmo, Apple Pay, and other online money transfer services…
