FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (WCBD) – The City of Folly Beach worked to install a new project along Folly River with volunteers and local organizations.
The first model living shoreline can now be seen at Folly River Park. This comes as the city has been partnering with Shoreline Restoration Group and Weston & Sampson for two years on the design. It uses natural materials, including oyster reefs and native vegetation, for resilience.
“The project is basically another step in our resiliency plan for the whole island. We’ve done a lot of work in the past, with beachfront management and so forth,” Chris Bizzell, mayor of Folly Beach, said. “This is attacking the marshfront erosion issues we’re seeing. We get a lot of a tidal erosion and boat wakes.”…
