CHARLESTON, S.C. — Doctors are warning about a dangerous “flesh-eating” bacteria now confirmed in Charleston Harbor, a spot many Augusta-area families visit for beach and boating trips.
Researchers at the College of Charleston say they’ve found Vibrio vulnificus in Charleston Harbor using DNA testing. The bacteria thrives in warm, brackish saltwater and is most common from spring through late fall, peaking in June, July and August.
