AWENDAW, S.C. — For generations of Lowcountry families, a trip along Highway 17 wasn’t complete without a stop at Seewee Restaurant. Known for its fresh seafood, Southern cooking and relaxed atmosphere, the Awendaw institution has become a cherished tradition for locals, tourists and travelers making their way along South Carolina’s coast. Now, after more than three decades as a restaurant and nearly a century as a fixture in the community, Seewee is preparing for a new chapter.

The property has been listed for sale for nearly $2.5 million, prompting questions about the future of one of Charleston County’s most recognizable roadside landmarks. While no redevelopment plans have been announced and the restaurant remains open, the listing has sparked a wave of nostalgia among longtime customers who say Seewee is much more than a place to eat. “It’s been a staple of Charleston for so long,” said patron Jack Moore. “It’s an old-school restaurant.”
