A South Carolina man will spend several decades behind bars for shooting and killing a father who intervened to protect his daughter during an ongoing domestic violence incident.
Earlier this week, Joshua Scott-Lee Butler, 29, was convicted by a jury of his peers in Berkeley County on one count of murder over the death of 53-year-old Earl Goodwater. He was also convicted on one count each of pointing and presenting a firearm at a person and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Jurors acquitted Butler on one count of second-degree domestic violence.
Later this week, the defendant was sentenced to 45 years in prison by Circuit Court Judge Courtney Clyburn-Pope. The court also sentenced Butler to two five-year sentences for the lesser crimes but assessed those sentences to run concurrently, or at the same time…
