CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — The Medical University of South Carolina is teaming up with Siemens Healthineers to launch an accelerated training program designed to cut the traditional year-long timeline for computed tomography technologists down to six months.
Hospitals nationwide are facing a shortage of CT technologists, with some sites seeing workforce gaps of up to 20%, according to Siemens Healthineers.
“So, one of the big aspects of medical imaging is, how do we help our customers develop the workforce of the future? Whereas in the marketplace right now, a lot of our sites are looking at about 15-20% workforce shortage, right? And that’s a huge impact on patient care, because we don’t have folks to run the actual machines, and we don’t provide the best care, right?
