Near record highs today, strong storms possible Thursday!

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Record heat is possible as we head through the next 48 hours! Unseasonably warm temperatures are expected out of the gate this morning with high temperatures reaching the low to mid 90s inland, low 80s at the beaches. The record high temperature at Charleston International Airport for today is 93° set in 1986. There is only a small chance of rain late today to cool us down. A better chance of showers and storms may arrive Thursday afternoon or evening on the tail end of another very hot day. Forecast highs for Thursday are back in the low to mid 90s. There is a slight risk of strong to severe storms Thursday PM as a complex of storms likely develop across north Georgia and track toward the lower South Carolina coastline and/or SE Georgia. The exact track will determine whether we get brushed by these storms or take them on the chin. Any storm could produce large hail, frequent lightning and very strong winds. A brief, isolated tornado will be possible too.
