Josh Wakefield drives in three runs at Fayetteville ends losing streak

The Fayetteville Woodpeckers (2-7) concluded the nine-game homestand and a six-game series from Segra Stadium on Sunday evening against the Charleston RiverDogs (5-4). Aubrey Smith was on the mound for Fayetteville against Aidan Haugh of Charleston.

In the bottom of the first inning, Fayetteville had runners on the corners with two outs when catcher Arturo Flores hit a three-run home run to center field for a 3-0 lead. It was Flores’s second home run of the season. Camilo Diaz struck out swinging, and the inning was over.

At the top of the second inning, Charleston got back into the game when Smith walked Daniel Pierce, followed by left fielder Dean Moss hitting a two-run home run to center field. The RiverDogs trailed the Woodpeckers 3-2. Smith struck out Brody Donay and Jose Monzon, before getting Derek Datil to groundout to first baseman Nehomar Ochoa Jr. to end the inning…
