Lowcountry tribal leader honored for community service and advocacy

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD)—A Lowcountry leader is being honored for her commitment to service and community impact. Lisa Collins, chief of the Wassamasaw Tribe of Varnertown Indians, has been recognized by the Courage Project, a national organization that highlights individuals who uplift their communities through service, advocacy, and leadership.

This year’s theme, “Neighbors Helping Neighbors,” celebrates those making a difference through everyday acts of care and connection. Collins says she was surprised by the honor, but grateful for the recognition. She says it validates the work she has dedicated her life to serving others, strengthening her community, and standing firm in her principles.
