Charleston-area dolphin ‘Koko,’ mourns loss of newborn calf

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A local dolphin known as “Koko” was seen on Friday morning pushing her deceased neonate (newborn) to the surface of the water, according to the Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network.

Koko, a regular strand feeder, has been seen around Charleston since 2004 and lives in the Kiawah River.

Koko was last seen with a calf, Kai, from 2018-2021, according to the Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network…
