Charlotte police warn of scammers impersonating officers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are warning residents about scammers impersonating law enforcement officers.

Weeks ago, police charged Jacob Hutchins with posing as an officer. According to an arrest warrant, he wore a shirt with a badge that said CMPD and stole more than $1,800 from a woman after booting her vehicle.

Detective Ashley Phillips said this has happened before, and investigators want to warn that it could happen again…
