Severe storm threat starts week for some places in Carolinas

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – After a very nice Father’s Day, it is back to typical summertime weather across the Carolinas with heat, humidity and a few chances for thunderstorms.

Temperatures Monday will heat up to the low to mid-90s around Charlotte. Add in the humidity, and the feels-like temperature will approach 100 degrees.

First Alert: Severe threat late Monday

Strong thunderstorms will develop in the afternoon and evening, especially along and north of I-40. That storm threat will sag southward toward Charlotte in the late evening and overnight. While damaging winds will be the primary severe threat, any thunderstorm could produce heavy downpours and frequent lightning.

Lingering showers and thunderstorms will be possible on Tuesday. Temperatures won’t be as hot, with highs reaching the upper 80s.
