Renee Klein, who lives in Charlotte, received a letter. It appeared to come from the IRS. The message told her to scan a QR code and submit bank account details for a tax refund deposit. Klein dodged the scam because she knew no refund was coming her way.
“I wasn’t getting a refund, so they didn’t need my bank account. That was the only reason that I actually stopped and said, ‘This doesn’t seem legit,'” she said, according to WSOC-TV
