Fast-growing grocery chain adding more North Carolina locations

Wegmans is continuing its aggressive North Carolina expansion, with new stores planned in Charlotte and Holly Springs as the popular grocery chain deepens its presence in one of the country’s fastest-growing states.

Wegmans expanding deeper into North Carolina

Wegmans announced that its first Charlotte-area store will open on October 14, 2026 in the Ballantyne neighborhood. The 110,000-square-foot supermarket is expected to employ about 450 workers and will become the company’s fifth North Carolina location.

The Charlotte store will feature Wegmans’ signature prepared foods, sushi, bakery, seafood, and produce departments, along with the company’s first outdoor seating and play area concept. Construction on the site began in 2024 through a partnership with Northwood Investors LLC.

Wegmans currently operates North Carolina stores in Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Wake Forest, and West Cary. The grocer first entered the state in 2019 when it opened its Raleigh location, which also marked the company’s 100th store overall.
