CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A major transportation project moving forward in Charlotte has some west-side residents worried about what it could mean for their homes, neighborhoods and quality of life.
The I-77 South toll lane project received final regional approval Wednesday after the Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization voted 64-5 to move ahead. The project calls for roughly 11 miles of new toll lanes between Uptown Charlotte and the South Carolina state line. (https://www.wbtv.com)
For residents in neighborhoods including Wilmore and McCrorey Heights, the approval is bringing renewed concerns about possible displacement, construction impacts, noise and the loss of historic community spaces.
