Mecklenburg County homeowners and renters who suffered uninsured damage or losses by Hurricane Helene can now apply for FEMA disaster assistance. FEMA has already been aiding 25 counties in western North Carolina and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians with disaster assistance. On Saturday, officials announced Mecklenburg and Swain counties are now eligible for help.
