NASCAR driver from Charlotte earns first Cup Series win at iconic race track

BRISTOL, Tenn. (WBTV) – A Charlotte native earned his first NASCAR Cup Series win at one of racing’s most iconic tracks on Sunday.

Ty Gibbs — driver of the No. 54 car — led the final 25 laps and survived an overtime finish to win at Bristol Motor Speedway on April 12.

The win didn’t come easy as Gibbs had to hold off 2023 Cup champion Ryan Blaney in the closing laps, including on the overtime restart with two laps to go. The two finished side-by-side, with the No. 54 just ahead of Blaney…
