Concord Crash Kills Driver On Poplar Tent Road

Sunday turned tragic on one of Concord’s busiest corridors when a single-vehicle crash on Poplar Tent Road left a driver dead and a passenger in the hospital, authorities said. The wreck shut down the roadway for hours as first responders and investigators worked the scene.

According to a city spokesperson, the vehicle veered off Poplar Tent Road and slammed into a fence and a tree. The driver later died from their injuries, and a passenger was rushed to a hospital for treatment. The crash forced officials to close Poplar Tent Road between Kings Crossing Drive and Lyerly Ridge Road before reopening the stretch at about 1:30 p.m., as reported by WCNC.

Why This Stretch Is In The Spotlight

Poplar Tent Road is a heavily traveled connector that links Interstate 85, Concord Regional Airport and central Concord. It is busy enough that state transportation planners have already flagged it for upgrades aimed at easing congestion and improving safety.
