Charlottesville police officer on leave after downtown chase and shooting

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – A Charlottesville police officer is on leave and a man suspected of a crime in Albemarle County is at large after a chase and shooting near Market Street Park the morning of Saturday, June 20.

According to a Charlottesville Police Department news release, officers located a man they believed to be Daquan Hoffman in the downtown area early Saturday morning. Hoffman is wanted in Albemarle County on a charge of malicious wounding.

Police chased the suspect as he ran away through the area of Market Street Park, according to the news release. Several shots were fired, but the news release did not specify how many or who fired them. Police did not catch the suspect…
