Fishburne opening new all-boys middle school in fall of 2024

WAYNESBORO — Fishburne Military School is opening a new all-boys middle school this coming fall.

Fishburne is a private, all-male, military boarding school in Waynesboro. It currently has students from seventh to 12th grade.

The school said that it will add sixth-grade students in the fall and begin transitioning students in sixth- through eighth-grade to Fishburne Middle School over the next two years. The Fishburne Middle School will be a separate division and a non-boarding school, per a press release. It will not be a part of the Corps of Cadets.

The middle school will feature a classical-style education foundation for boys, the release said, and will be located at Waynesboro’s First Presbyterian Church adjacent to Fishburne. The middle school will have a required uniform of a Fishburne polo shirt and khaki pants. Lunch will be served in Fishburne Military School’s Sonneborn Mess Hall.

Christianna Herrera, currently an English teacher at FMS, will be the director of the middle school. Herrera’s previous assignments included chief educational officer, principal, and teacher with over 19 years of experience.
