HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – Construction is set to begin as soon as Monday evening, April 20, on the latest Interstate 81 widening project in the Shenandoah Valley — this one set to expand six miles of the roadway in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.
As construction begins, there will be 24/7 shoulder closures and overnight single-lane closures in both directions from approximately one mile south of exit 243 (Route 11/Pleasant Valley Road) to mile marker 244 (near Rocktown High School), according to a release from the Virginia Department of Transportation. Overnight lane closures last from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. and will strengthen the right shoulder of the roadway.
During peak travel hours, all roadways lanes will remain open, VDOT said. Construction-related lane closures will also be limited during major holidays to reduce any impacts on travelers…
