Litter cleanup at East Lake Park in Chattanooga encourages residents to protect wildlife

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Efforts to protect Tennessee’s waterways and wildlife are happening across the state, including right here in Chattanooga.

The Tennessee Aquarium spent the day encouraging community members to do their part in the East Lake neighborhood.

A belated Earth Day celebration took place at East Lake Park, where volunteers joined the Tennessee Aquarium in an effort to help keep local waterways clean.

Stephanie Soto, the event’s organizer and the Aquarium’s learning supervisor, says the group collected eight pounds of trash in the first round of pickup.

She adds there’s still a ways to go when it comes to protecting local wildlife and keeping their habitat healthy…
