Chattanooga water tankers, tri-state crews join fight against raging south Georgia fires

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Fire crews from around the southeast are being called on to help contain large wildfires in south Georgia, including tankers here in the Chattanooga area.

Officials says the largest wildfire, the Pineland Road fire in Clinch and Echols Counties, has burned more than 50 square miles and destroyed at least 35 homes.

Another major fire along Highway 82 in Brantley County has burned more than 35 square miles and destroyed at least 87 homes.

Heavy rainfall slowed the two large wildfires over the weekend, helping crews make some progress, but it was “nearly enough to put the fires out.”…
