NORFOLK, Va. — The sailor accused of killing Seaman Angelina Resendiz could enter a plea agreement next month, according to the attorney representing the Resendiz’s family, potentially shortening what was originally expected to be a two-week military trial.
Navy court records now show proceedings for Seaman Jermiah Copeland are scheduled for two days beginning June 8 at Naval Station Norfolk, instead of the previously scheduled two-week trial.
Marshall Griffin, an attorney working with Resendiz’s family, said conversations with Navy officials indicate Copeland is expected to enter a plea agreement when the case goes before a military judge. Griffin cautioned, however, that no agreement has been finalized…
