Suffolk Police seek the public’s help to solve 1976 cold case

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Suffolk Police need the public’s help to solve a 50-year-old cold case, according to a post from the department on Facebook.

At around 3:40 a.m. on June 6, 1976, Chester Talton was found lying on the side of the roadway on the Rt. 58 bypass at the Downtown Suffolk exit. Talton was unconscious and had severe head injuries.

Talton was transported to Sentara Obici Hospital and then to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. After several days, he succumbed to his injuries. An autopsy noted the cause of death as a homicide by blunt force trauma.

The investigation in 1976 didn’t lead to any arrests. Subsequent investigations in the ’80s and the late ’90s also didn’t lead to arrests…
