Accomack Board of Supervisors votes to approve MOU with Old Dominion University to develop child care opportunities

Accomack County approved a new partnership aimed at expanding access to child care across the county at their meeting Wednesday night. The Memorandum of Understanding is with Old Dominion University’s Minus 9 to 5 Collective Impact Initiative to launch a county-funded family day home incentive program.

The initiative supports the creation of at least six new family day home providers, generating between 24 and 60 new child care slots for local families. The program is designed to increase access to infant care, extended-hour services, overnight care, and other non-traditional child care options.

Under the proposal, participants would be selected through a competitive application process and guided through Virginia’s licensing requirements. They would receive training, business development support, site inspections, and financial assistance for equipment and startup costs…
