Newport News teacher wins $24,000 James Madison Graduate Fellowship

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A Woodside High School social studies teacher has received a $24,000 fellowship to help teach the U.S. Constitution at the secondary level.

Janet Costello received the James Madison Graduate Fellowship for the Commonwealth of Virginia from the James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation, which was founded in and has been funded by Congress since 1986. Costello said it’s a fellowship of teachers who want to teach the Constitution and civic engagement.
